Superb Collection of Arrangements

I've been looking around for a great collection of Christmas songs in solo fingerstyle, and so far this one is my favorite. It is an extensive collection of all the standards, and the arrangements are very appealing despite being relatively easy. A few observations that set this collection apart:

1) It includes a CD. This lets you hear the arrangement before you start trying to learn it. I don't know why so many fingerstyle songbooks omit this, but for me, it's a must.
2) The songs are easy enough to learn and memorize relatively quickly. These aren't virtuoso pieces, but then I really don't have the desire to work up a virtuoso piece just for Christmas... after all, I won't play it after the 25th. If you want virtuoso pieces, check out Mark Hanson or Craig Dobbins' offerings.
3) All songs are in standard tuning (except O Christmas Tree, which is in Drop-D tuning). Very convenient!
4) 22 songs plus CD for $9.99??? What a bargain!
5) While the arrangements are described as "easy", that doesn't mean they're not challenging. Several approaches to harmonization are presented (pinches, rolls, arpeggios, etc.), so you'll learn some things along the way too.

Frankly, this book should be the standard for beginning to intermediate fingerstyle guitarists. You won't be disappointed.

Poorly interpreted versions.

I ordered this book from Amazon after checking an earlier version out from the library. The arrangements in this version were WAY OFF from what I had seen in the earlier version. I later found that earlier version at a large local book retailer. It is the same book, piece for piece, same publisher and everything, but the arrangements in the earlier version make a beginner like me sound like a strong intermediate. Playing from this version, nothing even sounds close. My advise, look for a used copy of the earlier version.

A good standard selection with simple arrangements for preparing a repertoire for the folks on Christmas eve around the tree. I can get these tunes memorized with plenty of time to spare before 12/24.

The issue of the reestablishment of guilds, however, subsequently became intertwined with the growing mechanization of production. Under the Napoleonic regime, the government considered several projects to restore guilds in a large-scale fashion, but the counterargument that guilds could impede mechanization prevailed. After Bonaparte's fall, the restored Bourbon dynasty was expected to reorganize guilds, but its sponsorship of an industrial exhibition in 1819 signaled its endorsement of mechanization, and after 1821 there were no further efforts to restore guilds during the Restoration.

groundbreaking scholarship

It is rare to find a responsible presentation of facts concerning industrialization in Europe. Rather than supporting the more commonly held idea that mechanization was inevitable and necessary for progress, Fitzsimmons offers a different perspective. In the hands of the upper bourgeoisie, and a French government in the grip of ruthless competition with Britain, industrialization became a calculating method of redistributing wealth and power. Fitzsimmons does not use bully tactics to posit a hightly personal opinion. The scholarship is indepth and cross-referenced (even the footnotes are invaluable). I recommend this to anyone, really, but it crucial for students studying the 18th century in any capacity.

Good and enjoyable read

Many years have passed since this book has first been published, and while it is a great and helpful read, I feel that some of the problems are not as easily approached today as they have been 15, 25 or 50 years ago. But regardless, it is well written, easy and enjoyable to read and helps a (Montessori) teacher to stay open minded when looking for a new approach to an issue. In fact, I recommended this book to quite a few parents, hoping that it will give them some guidance and insight. Miss Vanessa [...]

Required reading for my Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residents

Donna Bryant Goertz has written the most incredible book ever. This book made it necessary for me to completely rethink my own practice of psychiatry and how to best work with children with any number of challenges, inspired me to take a sabbatical year to do AMI Elementary training (at the amazing Hershey Montessori Training Institute), and has enchanted and delighted my very very dear residents who have repeatedly voted this very book their most favorite of the hundreds of assigned readings they must complete as part of their own education. I cannot say enough good things about this book, and about the wonderful experiences that some very fortunate children have had in Donna's early elementary community. We have now developed an experience at a local Montessori school for all of our residents, so that they can see for themselves the wonderful outcomes for all children when they are in Montessori communities like Donna's, guided by prepared adults who make it their priority that every child is received with love, optimism, empathy, humor, grace, and did I mention love? I have ordered and given away this book 15 times already (just ordered again 10 minutes ago) and will probably order it 15 times over again. Thank you, Donna, for this wonderful gift. You changed my life, and are changing the lives of 11 residents this year, who will hopefully pay it forward in their future practices all of this wisdom. If I am ever allowed to teach the Mind Committee at the CWRU Medical School ever again, I will require all 200+ medical students to read your book as well. This book should be required reading at all levels of psychiatry and pediatric residency training, and all child psychology and abnormal psychology undergraduate courses, as well as all early childhood education pedagogy courses. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Also, pairs beautifully with Ross Greene's "Lost At School", a course in how teachers/Guides can use Collaborative Problem Solving to help children who are not yet peaceful (another big favorite of the residents).

A humanistic approach to a younger society.

The real classroom stories in this book demonstrate that education can and must include the transmission of values - amongst which is the realization of the innate value of each and every child as they grow to be included in the healthy functioning of a greater society. Goertz has created a meaningful society of children who are called upon to be themselves, know themselves, and then grow themselves in the most satisfying and unexpected ways, while valuing the very same process within their classmates. A true community emerges.

This book speaks to anyone interested in a hero's journey of sorts - for our youth and for ourselves. It demonstrated that with a shift in an adult's perception and actions, and by not allowing ourselves to buy into any conventional paradigm of children and their abilities, there can emerge a dynamic, meaningful and peace - oriented society. Within these pages, Goertz demonstrates the tenacity and intelligence of childhood, capable of creating an inclusive, harmonic society as it beautifully mirrors the potential of our own adult society.

As a Montessori guide myself, I was heartened by Goertz's compassionate and wise approach to working with her students. Now I hope we can have another book - this time featuring a 3-6 community - written in the same style which makes me feel as though I'm a fly on the classrooom wall with much to learn!

Good Reference For Weaponry

Like most of the How to Draw Manga series, this is more of a reference guide then a book on how to draw. The cover says Guns and Military, but it's mostly only guns (although it does have about 3 pages dedicated to Russian, Japanese and American police uniforms). It has over 22 different types of guns, and gets very detailed as with the types of bullets the gun uses, who uses them, and how to a person would aim them. You probably shouldn't get this unless you have some experience in drawing, since as I said this is a reference guide and it only shows drawings of what the guns look like, not how to draw them.

Lock Stalk And Barrel

This book is really great for anyone wanting to include guns or other military realted tools in their manga or stories. The book is very well done and the pictures are accurate. The author has also included useful information about diffrent types of guns, ammunition, fireing styles, gun modifications used by shooters around the world. The other great thing about it is it is layman friendly, the author goes through alot of information that will help you better understand how guns work and why diffrent modifications and ammunitions are uses for diffrent purposes. Besides guns the book also cover accessories and some military uniforms from diffrent countries. Again I have to comment on the accuracy of the information. I've seen firearm encyclopedias that don't cover as much as they do in this book. It is really work getting.

Nice Details, Good Book

I really enjoyed this book. It is great for learning how to draw weapons, not just anime style, but any style. This book really has little to do with anime. But the weapons are great. There are many different angles and bits of information, like how many bullets they use, what country used them and when, etc. My only complaint would be the lack of futuristic weapons. Also, don't expect knives or swords. It's just a book of guns (and some random motorcycles).

A uniquely critical technology for modern medicine

Summary:
A well-founded research based textbook on the medical science, techniques, and varied applications of hyperbaric medical treatments ("HBO"). Written for specialists, clinicians and students.
This is a seminal textbook for understanding the medical and scientific facts of hyperbaric medicine, as well as implementing hyperbaric medical technologies to patient care. HBO has widely varied disease and condition applications with a commonality of pressure technology.
Medical Economics
In the modern world of medical economics, HBO can save Third Party Payers significant costs on patient treatments while delivering significantly improved outcomes and quality of life.
HBO is one of those medical sub-specialties that is left behind by the biases of modern medical economics and science. Modern medicine is primarily based on pharmaceutical economics. Significant research investments are powered by the manufacturing and distribution economics of successful drugs. This is a great and tremendous system, delivering research, understanding and successful treatments that unquestionably alleviate disease and conditions on a broad basis. But, this system is not perfect and is not without isolated failings.
HBOT cannot be packaged into a pill, has minimal manufacturing economies, and high ongoing service costs and high overhead, while associated with nominal patient volumes, and nominal billing rates. These economics have long held back this very promising technology (HBO) and its successful applications. Further, double blind studies are virtually impossible - patients perceive pressure changes, or lack thereof, technicians are required to implement pressurization, and oxygen delivery systems may not be able to deliver less than 100% oxygen.
Ironically, HBO can power pharmaceutical and surgical applications to higher levels of treatment success bringing cures where partial successes were the norms. (Chapters 9, 13 14, 15, 23, 24, 27, 33).
Controversially, HBO has demonstrated good clinical success on incurable diseases and conditions, including Crones Disease, stroke, CP, MS, and others. While modern medicine debates the etiologies and optimal treatment protocols, curative HBO applications can be given today. These applications (esp. Crones, and MS) can further illuminate etiologies therefore, furthering and accelerating alternative and supportive therapies.
HBOT supports diabetic wound healing, preventing amputations; enhances infectious disease therapies, saving lives and reducing hospital stays; is used for various poisonings; can provide accelerated surgical recoveries (up to 30-40% faster); and can ameliorate strokes and brain injuries by up to 40% when applied within 4 hours of injury.
Medical Physics
Simply, under pressure, oxygen dissolves in blood serum, and therefore can diffuse to poorly supported disease areas, or injuries. Further, HBO acts as an immuno-suppressant, relieving acutely injured tissues of oedema, preventing further injuries (if applied on a timely basis), as well as supporting the natural healing process.
Angiogenesis occurs within 15 - 20 minutes of HBO. It is not known if angiogenesis is initiated by the increased pressure effects, or by the oxygen dissolved in the serum. However, angiogenesis is felt to be a factor supporting accelerated healing in injuries, chronic wounds, and surgical recoveries. Further, little is known about these growth factors and their involvement with healing.
Neurological Applications
The chapters on neurological applications are some of the most significant in this text and should be required reading for all neurologists because they hold the greatest single promise to modern healthcare. These chapters are steeped with extensive (and largely ignored) animal and human research papers, extensive clinical studies with supportive SPECT scans and associated clinical outcomes.
The brain remains the final frontier of science and brain injuries are the most destructive and expensive to society (#1 killer of children and teenagers, #1 birth defect, #2 killer for adults).
We do not understand the brain's response to injury, or disease, much less detail its response to treatments and recoveries. But, we can accept the overwhelming clinical observations made by trained physicians world-wide of positive outcomes to HBO when applied to brain injuries, and cerebral palsy patients.
Hopefully, one day we will be able to manufacture a drug, or drug regimen that can replace HBO treatments for brain injuries. However, that day is probably 50 years from today. Therefore, today, we need to apply HBO to brain injuries, note the clinical outcomes, optimize the treatments, and develop ancillary supportive therapies.
Diagnostic Imaging is propelling objective clinical research for neurological applications of HBO by demonstrating underlying metabolic activity changes in brain tissues with HBO. Clinical observations significantly correlate with SPECT scan changes. (SPECT using HMPAO have become the scan of choice.) Chapter 18 written by Dr.'s Neubauer and Harch provide an excellent foundation for understanding and support for using HBO for brain injuries and CP.

Great resource

I recently started a small hyperbaric clinic, and am at the beginning of a steep learning curve relative to HBOT. This book has helped me and others I come in contact with understand treatment and treatment issues for many of the conditions that hyperbarics is currently being utilized. The chapters on specific conditions are thorough, well-annotated, and specific. This is the first place I go for information. I'm grateful this is updated periodically as the research base in growing rapidly. I highly recommend this book. Don't be deterred by the price, it's worth it.

for those who practice its an excellent guide and for the
layman it will open your eyes to what hbo can do( and
cannot do) as well letting you know who cannot use
the hyperbaric chamber.

About the Author
Scott Coplan, PMP,  is a project manager, educator, author, and speaker on project management best practices. He is the founder and president of COPLAN AND COMPANY, a project management software and services firm.  Scott managed EHR requirements definition and acquisition for a national specialty healthcare firm's multiple facilities and oversaw implementing over nine financial, administrative and clinical applications at three separate Los Angeles County, California hospitals in both in-patient and ambulatory settings.  He also holds faculty positions at the University of Washington Schools of Public Health and Medicine, where he teaches healthcare project management. 
David Masuda, M.D., is a physician and educator at the University of Washington. During the past 10 years, he developed and delivered courses in clinical care and applied clinical informatics for certificate, masters, and doctoral programs in health administration, medicine, and nursing.  He currently develops distance-learning approaches for healthcare higher education.

Must read for Healthcare CIOs

In their book, Project Management for Healthcare Information Technology, Coplan and Masuda have proposed that the successful implementation of projects in health care require the synthesis of three methodologies: project management, information technology management (product management) and change management. The first two methodologies are codified in the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK). The third methodology does not have a formalized document outlining the process for introducing and implementing change in an organization; rather, it relies on theories and practices from the disciplines of organizational behavior and organizational development. They reason that the complexity of the health care environment and the importance of "buy in" of all of the parties to the implementation of new technology in the health care setting require that projects draw on all three methodologies.
The structure of this book enhances the message that the authors are communicating. Each chapter begins with a clear statement of the learning objectives. These objectives are then discussed in a logical order and build upon each other. The narrative is enhanced by multiple quotes from six project leaders in world renown health care organizations describing their understanding of the concepts presented in the text. Finally, each chapter ends with a conclusion summarizing the concepts from the chapter and providing endnotes with further information on the topics covered. The chapters cover each methodology in detail. Thus, making it possible to skip areas that the reader feels that they have fully mastered and permitting them to focus on the methodologies that they need to understand in further depth. The Appendix is a graphic model of the fully integrated methodology for health information project management. It illustrates how each of the three disciplines fit into the five basic process groups in a project: initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing. This is a fitting conclusion to this comprehensive work on project management for health care information technology.

Yes - This Is It

I like the "this is it" review and agree 100%. I have now used the books approach on several projects with success. PMBOK does not address the Change Management piece and this is where the fail/succeed of projects falls. It is also one of a handful of books that I now have both the Kindle and print edition. The overall framework also works well in non-HIT and merger integration - as in any framework/methodology, tailoring to the project is essential, and this book has it covered.

"People side" of Project Management

Great to have the "People side" elevated to equal status with project management and IT management in the real "triple constraint" of healthcare IT. By addressing the communications required to change human behavior, Coplan and Masuda have not only moved Change Management to the forefront of the healthcare IT discussion, they also provide a methodology for Change Management that incorporates the "Knowledge Areas by Process Group" structure familiar to all project managers.

A MUST READ for anyone struggling to effectively address the "people side" of their projects or wanting to AVOID these pitfalls by effectively incorporating a Change Management Plan into their healthcare IT project.

One of those books that leaves you wanting more at the end

Mythology can be confusing and complex but still this author hits it outta the park. An absolute joy to read I looked forward to it every time with excitement and was sad when I read the last story. Her explanations are clear and without embellishment giving you a simply great depiction of ancient Greece and what life must have been like when these stories were most popular. The end section about Norse mythology was just as awesome though sadly only a few stories long. I like also that at the beginning of each story she tells you from which ancient poet she is basing her adaption on and why, she explains the different styles of the Greek and Roman poets and how its relevant to the telling of the story. Not only that but she explains the symbolism behind characters like Hercules and Thesis and why they did the things they did. Fantastic and I would love to read more of her work and I can't wait to read this to my children one day for bed time stories!

This book was for my high school son's Mythology class. He loves the class and has read the book for is own enjoyment also. He says it is interesting and not dry at all, which is what he expected. There were stories that he had never read about Greek mythology before which was nice. His younger brother is waiting for the class to be over so he can read it-I am second in line also. I don't often by from the marketplace, but had a great experience with this seller. Book came quickly, was well packaged and in better condition than described-excellent, like new.Will buy from this seller again.

Great introduction to all things Greek and Roman Mythology

Hamilton's Mythology is a classic. The author synthesized the greatest of the Greek and Roman poets and historians to provide the reader with an amazing introduction to Greek and Roman Mythology. As a reader I found out so many roots to words and concepts that are used in every day language. Hamilton provides useful information and fills in the gaps from classics such as the Iliad and the Odyssey. She utilized many sources and gives a wonderful introduction to each chapter. Parental warning - these stories are fantastic but sometimes brutal and graphic to those with an imagination. Definitely a PG-13 book if it were made into a movie.
